My husband is going to travel back to India and I am so so excited. Can’t wait! Just 2 days and we’ll be together. This entire LDR thing is now driving me crazy. Anyway, getting back to today’s blog, he has a pretty long layover in Helsinki. While I was giving him the list of all those little hacks, I thought why not share it with you all.

This is a hack which I suggest to every traveler I know. I mean with all those security checks, long layover and the over-charged water bottles, it is suggested to carry an empty water bottle with you and once you are through the security check, you can re-fill it and you’re good to go!

If you are someone who carries a lot of electronics, it is advisable to carry a separate bag for those to make the security check easier. One tends to get confuse between getting everything checked to wrapping up everything after the check is over.

Long flight? Long layover time? Portable charger is a must. Yes, it is a life savior since you can engage in may be checking and responding to the emails or sorting all those articles or blogs you wanted to long back or may be watch movies or your favorite series on Netflix.

If you want to save time while identifying your luggage on the conveyer belt, customize your luggage. It does not necessarily mean that you have to buy expensive customized bags, although they are available in the market and look really cool. If not, you can go by the ribbon technique which I use. Take a ribbon of your choice and tie it beautifully on to the top of your luggage bag.

I always carry my own pack of favorite snack and/or some cola to save on the extra bucks which I have to pay at the airport to get the same stuff. Be smart and carry your own snacks whenever you have a long flight.

There is this front zip of your hand bag which is never used probably. Why don’t you try picking up some Ziplocs and filling those pockets with these? I absolutely love them and believe that they are extremely helpful. I use them to keep all my toiletries and cosmetics.

Always carry your own headphones. One, the ones which you get the flights are horrible. Two, for long layovers, you can use them to enjoy music.

Packing stuff and have that heavy jacket or those big hiking shoes which you think are making your luggage really heavy. Mind wearing them on? That not only helps lighten your luggage but also helps you during the chilling long flights.

  1. SLEEP

Have a pretty long layover and got to attend an important business meeting the day you land? If you don’t need a super cosy bed and can sleep with the lights on, there are so many lounges at the airport with some really cool and comfortable couches, use them to complete your sleep. Why not?

Since most of us are right-handers, we tend to use our right lane to walk or do things. So, during the security check, try getting into the left lane as it is generally less crowded.

That’s all for now, it’s 6 in the morning and I have some really important emails to check and close. Hopefully, you’ll have a more relaxing and comfortable flight despite a long layover!

I can attest to those. The water bottle I find to be the best, because the amount of money they charge you for a bottle of water once you pass security is ridiculous.

  5. Well, aren’t you me?! Hahaha!
Ziplocks make life so much easier. So does empty water bottle, snacks, headphones, wearing heavy stuff and the left side logic!
I’ve doing most of these as travelling has been my constant companion from the last one year. It’s only when you are frequent traveller, do you realise the importance of hacks!

You’ve listed some great time savers and hacks here. Another trick to customize luggage is to use electrical tape. I have a great big letter “H” on the front and back of my suitcase. I can tell which is mine quickly and more importantly, other travellers can quickly see that it isn’t their suitcase.

Some good tips. I will wear my heaviest cloths and I’ll always bring my own pillow on along overnight flight!
