Ever heard of a packing attack? When you have finally left for the trip to Spain which you had been planning since last couple of years, and end up finding that you forgot your wallet at home, how do you feel? A mini heart attack? Well, that’s what I call a packing attack! You don’t want to screw the excitement of your much-awaited trip because you FORGOT something at home! Nothing could be worse than that, duh! So, I thought I would walk you through some essential rules before you start packing because learning to pack efficiently is the key for a super amazing trip ahead.
Start by planning at least a week before the planned dates. Stock up every single thing which you need at one single place and take a look, from your tops till your slippers, scan through everything! Now, make a list of all those things which you think you are short of and since you have a week to go, you can probably purchase all that you require well in time. Then strategize the number of items which would be required. So, let’s say you require two floral tops, do not pack three instead. Smart work is what is required while you pack. When you have everything in front of you, it becomes easier for you to decide what you actually want.
- Don’t fold, roll instead
This is one thing which I strongly adhere to while packing my stuff. Even if you are not backpacking, it is advisable to roll all your clothes, rather than folding them. Also, not only do the rolled clothes take 10 times less space, but you’ll be surprised to know that fold clothes when packed have more chances of getting wrinkled as compared to the tightly rolled clothes.
- WEAR IT ON
That warm heavy jacket, yes, wear it on so that you don’t have to actually pack it and add those extra kilos to your bag. You can also think like this – you can definitely add that extra protection for the chilling flight! Smart and helpful!
- MAKE IT COMPATIBLE
Do not be adamant on having to wear a different outfit every single day. Well, you can play really smart here. You could go for the basic colors like black, brown or grey which can go well with all other colors plus you can accessorize it appropriately too. This will pare down the number of clothes and help keep your bag light.
Shoes take up a lot of space so you don’t want to pack 5 different shoes for a week-long trip. Right? When I travel, I pack a pair of flats and wear a pair of shoes to keep it light. Choose these two pairs smartly so that they go easily with all your outfits.
- DUAL PURPOSE
It’s always a wise decision to opt for clothes which can be used for multiple purposes. For example, I have this jacket which can also be used as a travel pillow and I have a pant which I can turn into shorts. I would definitely want to include these two in my travel packing list. Isn’t it?
- PLASTIC BAGS
Always carry n number of plastic bags while you are traveling, specially on long trips. This helps you carry all wet stuff. Also, these bags help me to separate my clean and used clothes and I don’t mess around with clothes during my trip.
I always use ziploc bags to carry anything from my toothpaste to my sunblock! This is a cost effective and convenient solution and this makes sure that my face cream doesn’t stain my favorite top.
